Park Days: 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of the month
Bowling: Each Friday from 9-11 or 2-4, $7 gets you two games each Friday and shoe rental for a month!
Kids Care Club: 1st Friday of each month.
Rock Climbing: 2nd and 4th Wednesdays
Parents' Night Out: (date varies)
Mom's Scrap booking Nights: (4th Thursdays)
Sept. 2nd: Not back to School! Kick-Off
November 13th: **Starry Night**
7:00 pm until 10:00 pm. The dance is open to all home schoolers 13 and up. Close friends or siblings who are in school may come as the guest of a home- schooler. Parents are also welcome to buy tickets if they would like to stay. The cost for tickets is $8.00 if purchased by November 7th and $12.00 afterwards and at the door.
Music will be provided by a local DJ, soon to be announced.

Feb. 3rd: ShowCase - LAF Kids 'ShowCase' their talents and interests.

Camping Trips:
|
Enjoy camping with your fellow LAF families. Trips will be organized every other month or so throughout the year to various campgrounds in the area (mostly
state parks.) Come participate in orgainzed activities, share a potluck dinner or just relax by the campfire with friends and family. Tent and trailer campsites
usually available.

Classes:
|
Itsy Music (age 0-8): The music class will focus on singing, dancing and/or moving to music, playing games with music (i.e.
London
Bridge, etc.), and playing simple musical instruments (sticks, triangles, drums, tambourines, bells, tone blocks, etc.). We'll also listen to some classical music and learn a little bit about musical instruments.
Ancient Artists (ages mature 4 to 9): Travel through humankind's earliest history to learn about the artists who have gone before you. Study images of original works, share read-aloud stories from the various cultures and create your own works of art in the same styles and mediums a variety of ancient civilizations used. The fall semester will introduce Prehistoric, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Phoenecian, Aegean, Greek and Etruscan art. The spring semester will introduce Ancient African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, North American, Mayan, Celtic and Roman art.
Ancient Scientists (ages 4 to 9): Discoveries from Early Humans to Classical Civilizations, Who invented the band-aid? How was sugar first processed? Who were the first people to use soap? To write? To make a calendar? Come investigate some of the greatest early scientific discoveries and the civilizations that introduced them to the world. Using everyday materials, we will recreate the experiments that ancient civilizations conducted, leading them to amazing discoveries. Classes will explore the scientific journeys of Early Humans, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China and the Americans. (fall sememster)
Flower Power: An Exploration into Botany for (ages 4-9): Explore the awesome power of flowers as we discover the basics of botany, the evolutionary history of flowers & the importance of flowering plants to life on Earth. Dissect a lily, sprout a bean, learn to identify Texas wildflowers & much, much more. Our journey through the world of blossoms will end with a trip to the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, TX on April 30th. (spring semester)
Hands on Life Science (ages 5-8): This activities-focused class will include science experiments, games, projects, and stories. The first half of the year will focus on the incredible animal kingdom, to include life cycles, food chains, animal mix-ups, and learning more about a few of the most intriguing animals. The second half of the year, we'll explore the wonders of our fabulous human bodies. Activities will include making models of body systems, investigating health and nutrition, and even learning more about the microscopic parts of our bodies.
Food for Thought: a Literature Class for Little Ones (ages 0-7): Each month's class will focus on a children's book with a specific food theme: September- Johnny Appleseed, October- Pumpkin Pumpkin, November- The Popcorn Dragon, December- Growing Vegetable Soup, January- Pizza at Sally's, February- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, March- Chickens Aren't the Only Ones (eggs), April- Jamberry, May- Ice Cream Larry.
Career Exploration for Teens (12+) : Come explore the world of occupations, secondary education, the job market and related skills. We will start with a tour of a career center, take university group tours, visit businesses, and put together a career fair.
Geography (9-14): Our goal to have kids learning what is covered on the Geography Bee. They are not required to participate in the Geography Bee, however we need 6 children for Bee competition. We will be covering National and World Geography. There will be work that needs to be covered at home.
History of the World (12 +) : Starting with the Big Bang to the present days, we will explore the history of the universe, the solar system, our small planet and how mankind dominates the planet. In our lectures we will try to understand where did we came from and where we are going.
Latin Study Group (7 and up): An in-depth study group for those studying Latin.
Middle School Science (10 -14): hands on activities and experiments to enrich your own home science program.
Middle School Literature (age 10-14): Designed for middleschoolers to explore classic literature through group discussion and trivia questions.
Algebra II Study group:
American Government (age 15+): This interactive course will discuss the origins, causes, pressures and philosophies that resulted in the formation of the American system of Government.
Filmosophy (age 15+):This beginner's course in philosophy reaches students through a familiar medium: popular movies.
Mock Trials: (age 15+): The goal of this workshop is to practice skills in critical thinking, researching and interpreting data with focus on speech and debate. Topics relating to civil liberties along with others will be used. The workshop will begin with simple cases and move toward a complex trial.
The participants will prepare and deliver mock trials to a jury of their peers. Teens will alternate positions as attorneys, jurors, witnesses as well as plaintiffs and defendants.
Pre-work will be required in preparation for this workshop. Some preparation will be done in work groups as part of the workshop.
On the Contrary (age 14+): The goal of this workshop is to further develop skills in: listening, critical thinking; researching data; interpreting data and problem solving.
We will use the Presidential Race (through November) as our foundation for practicing the skills of good conversation, respecting others to have an opinion differing from ourselves and to learn about issues that confront our planet today. We will continue afer Novermber to explore global issues.
This workshop covers high school level topics found in Social Studies as well as in Speech and Debate.
